Cambodian Spokesperson Highlights Differences Between Government Supporters and Opponents in Australia

Phnom Penh: Royal Government Spokesperson, Pen Bona, remarked on the contrasting sentiments within the Cambodian community in Australia, highlighting the sharp division between government supporters and opponents.

Bona noted that the turnout of Cambodian supporters of the Royal Government in Australia was significantly higher than that of the dissidents. These supporters, he said, showcased their respect and admiration for the Royal Government and Prime Minister Hun Manet, expressing their views in a dignified manner without resorting to offensive language against the opposition.

Prime Minister Hun Manet has urged his supporters to maintain peace and avoid conflict with the opposition, despite facing harsh criticisms and inappropriate language from them. The Prime Minister's stance is rooted in his desire to prevent discord among Cambodians abroad.

On the other hand, a minority of dissenters, including those aligned with pro-government media, have been accused of infringing upon the rights of government supporters. Allegations against these supporters include accepting bribes and being paid to show their support, alongside the use of derogatory language towards the Royal Government and the Prime Minister. Such actions, according to Bona, not only violate individual rights but also tarnish the honor and dignity of those involved.

This situation underscores Prime Minister Hun Manet's dedication to fostering unity among Cambodians worldwide, reflecting the nurturing spirit of a leader towards his people. Despite the allegations, the spokesperson asserts that such tactics have failed to discredit the government. Instead, the widespread support for the Royal Government, both domestically and internationally, stands testament to its strong rapport with the people, likened to a dam capturing the hearts of its citizens.
